Underage drinking crackdown

Gov. Blagojevich on Friday signed a new law that increases the penalties for adults who knowingly allow underage drinking in their homes. Under the legislation, those convicted could get 1 to 3 years in prison and up to a $125,000 fine if they let teens drink and the drinking leads to serious injury or death. The bill is in response to a car accident that left two teens dead and three others injured after a house party last October.

3 teens charged in shooting

Three teenagers were charged Friday after allegedly firing shots at rival gang members, forcing an Elgin elementary school to go on a temporary lockdown. Scottie Rasavady, 17, and two 15-year-old boys each were charged with one felony count of aggravated discharge of a firearm, authorities said.

The 15-year-olds said they were driving in Elgin on Thursday when they noticed rival gang members following them in another car, police said.
