*Carter Albrecht, a keyboard player for the band Edie Brickell & New Bohemians, was shot to death early Monday in Dallas while trying to kick in the door of his girlfriend’s neighbor, police said. The neighbor thought a burglar was trying to break in and fired a shot through the door around 4 a.m., police said. Albrecht, 34, died at the scene. It was not clear why he went to the house. No arrests have been made.
*Bryn Terfel has pulled out of his highly anticipated appearance in the Royal Opera’s production of Wagner’s “Ring” cycle, citing “a particularly stressful family situation” involving one of his children. The nature of the problem was not disclosed. The Welsh bass-baritone was to have sung Wotan/The Wanderer in the London performances scheduled for next month. The Times of London reported that the performance had been sold out for more than a year, with some tickets for the entire four-opera cycle going for as much as $1,610. Award-winning singer John Tomlinson will replace Terfel.
*Actress Kate Walsh of ABC’s “Private Practice” married movie executive Alex Young over the weekend. People.com reports that Walsh, 39, wore a custom-made Monique Lhuillier wedding gown as she and Young, 36, exchanged vows at the Ojai Presbyterian Church north of Los Angeles. Among about 100 guests were Walsh’s “Grey’s Anatomy” co-stars Katherine Heigl, Chandra Wilson, Sara Ramirez and Justin Chambers, as well as Shonda Rhimes, creator of both shows.
*Alberto Iglesias, who composed the soundtracks for Oscar-winning film director Pedro Almodovar’s “Talk to Her” and “All About My Mother,” has won Spain’s 2007 National Film Award, the Culture Ministry said Monday. Iglesias is in Los Angeles, where he has been working on the upcoming film “The Kite Runner.”
