*Nicole Kidman says she was engaged to a mystery man in between breaking up with Tom Cruise in 2001 and marrying Keith Urban in 2006. “I got engaged to somebody … but it just wasn’t right,” she tells Vanity Fair in its October issue. “I wasn’t ready. We weren’t ready.”

*The Goodman Theatre has its new Scrooge. Chicago actor Larry Yando will play the Dickensian miser in the 2007 edition of the long-running “A Christmas Carol.” Yando replaces Jonathan Weir, who recently joined the Chicago cast of “Jersey Boys.”

*Psychedelic rock group the Klaxons beat out British pop powerhouse Arctic Monkeys and troubled diva Amy Winehouse to win Britain’s prestigious Mercury Prize on Tuesday for their debut album, “Myths of the Near Future.”
