Parents, educators and the community are invited to provide feedback on U.S. Education Secretary Margaret Spellings’ back-to-school speech on the No Child Left Behind Act at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Room 240 of the Educational Services Center, 355 E. Chicago St., Elgin. Spellings’ speech will be earlier in the day in Washington. Supt. DISTRICT 59

The Kelly Miller Circus will perform at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. Sept. 14 and 2 and 5:30 p.m. Sept. 15 at 999 Leicester Rd., Elk Grove Village, next to Pirate’s Cove. General seating tickets cost $10 in advance and $12 on the day of the show. Ringside box seats cost $15. Camel, elephant and pony rides will be available before and after each show for an additional fee. Funds raised will be donated to School District 59 schools in the form of classroom grants. Tickets are on sale at Jarosch Bakery, 35 Arlington Heights Rd., Elk Grove Village, or at www.district59foundation.org.

DISTRICT 62

Curriculum Night and an open house will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Central School, 1526 Thacker St., Des Plaines. Call 847-824-1575.

The 8th-grade carwash will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Iroquois Community School, 1836 Touhy Ave., Des Plaines. Proceeds will help fund activities such as Outdoor Education, the end-of-the-year dance and this weekend’s trip to Great America. The group is also seeking donations of water and soft drinks to be sold during the carwash. DISTRICT 214

An open house for the District 214 Transition Program for students to provide independent living-skills opportunities will be held 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at 3411 N. Campbell Drive, Rolling Meadows. Call 847-718-7600.

DISTRICT 220

An all-community Party in the Park to celebrate the arts will be held from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday on the lawn at Barrington High School, 616 W. Main St. Gates open at noon. Activities will include dance, musical and comedy performances, art demonstrations and workshops. A live auction featuring student and faculty artwork, as well as performing groups and dance parties, will be held. Food vendors will sell refreshments, and the Fine Arts Boosters will sell items such as blankets, lawn chairs and T-shirts. Admission is free for Barrington High School students and senior citizens, $5 per person and $15 per family. Booster memberships will be available for purchase, and current and new members will be admitted for free. Call the Fine Arts Department at 847-842-3214.

OAKTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE

The Alliance for Lifelong Learning will expand its adult continuing education classes to Evanston residents. An open house on the new partnership will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Evanston Township High School, 1600 Dodge Ave. Continuing education courses also are available in Maine, Niles and Northfield high school districts. Open auditions for two Performing Arts at Oakton productions will be held at the Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Rd. Auditions for “The Adding Machine” by Elmer Rice will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. The director is casting eight men and seven women ages 18 and older to play multiple roles. Actors will be asked to do a cold reading from the script. Performances will be Oct. 25-28 and Nov. 1-4. Auditions for a staged reading of “The Analyst,” written and directed by Kate Tillotson, will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 12-13. The director is casting three men and three women to play characters in their 20s to 40s. Actors may prepare a short monologue or do a cold reading from the script. Performances will be Oct. 13-14.
