If “The View” hopes to court controversy as it did during its Rosie O’Donnell days, it’s off to a good start.
Whoopi Goldberg, who officially took her permanent seat on the “View” on Tuesday, chimed in on a controversial conversation about suspended NFL player Michael Vick and his participation in dogfighting.
“From his background, this is not an unusual thing where he comes from,” Goldberg said, referencing Vick’s “Deep South” upbringing, where she said dogfighting is considered a sport. “It’s like cockfighting in Puerto Rico.”
As a clearly quizzical Joy Behar questioned how anyone could consider “dog torture” and “dog killing” a sport, Goldberg continued with her perspective that Vick was likely puzzled by public outrage.
“It seemed like a light went off in his head when he realized dogfighting was something a lot of people didn’t appreciate,” Goldberg said.
