*A back-to-school party for parents, sponsored by the Mt. Prospect Historical Society and Bogie’s Ale House, will be held from 6 p.m. to midnight Friday in the upstairs room at Bogie’s, 303 E. Kensington Rd., Mt. Prospect. Pizza buffet costs $10. *A Flash Gordon marathon will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Stage One Theater in the Old Masonic Temple Building, 620 Lee St., Des Plaines. Twelve chapters of “Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe,” the 1940 season of the film series starring Buster Crabbe, will be screened to raise funds to buy and restore the historic Des Plaines Theater. *The fourth annual Family Freedom Festival will be held from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Metra train station parking lot, 201 S. Spring St., Barrington. There will be music, food, a beer garden, and family and children’s activities. The event will open with a wreath-laying ceremony and gun salute, and will close with a concert by Joe Cantafio and the 101st Rock Division. Care Village will showcase organizations that support the troops, including Operation Iraqi Children, which provides school supply kits to children in Iraq; the Yellow Ribbon Support group, which provides goodwill packages for military personnel overseas; Soldiers Angels, which allows people at home to write letters to soldiers; the 85th Division Family Readiness Group, which provides support for family members; the USO of Illinois; and the Heroes of Freedom Memorial, a foundation helping to provide a home for families of wounded veterans at Hines Veterans Hospital started by the parents of Marine Corps Pfc. *The inaugural Barrington Concours D’Elegance: Legends & Legacies will be held Sept. 14 to 16. Events include a golf tournament at 8 a.m. at Makray Memorial Golf Club in Barrington, and a road rally from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with breakfast and registration at 7:30 a.m., Sept. 15. The Concours D’Elegance classic car exhibit will be on display from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 16. A ride and drive event sponsored by Porsche and a book signing by photographer Michael Furman will also be held. VIP tickets for the Concours D’Elegance cost $75 in advance and $80 on Sept. 16. General admission tickets cost $25 and $30. Ages 11 and younger are free. The fee is $125 to participate in the road rally. Donation is $25 and includes dinner buffet, bowling and shoes. All proceeds benefit the family of Princess Teagan, the 2-year-old daughter of a South Barrington police officer. *The 10th annual Peter R. Tosto Jr. Foundation golf outing will begin at 10 a.m. Sept. 17 at the McHenry Country Club, 820 N. John St., McHenry.
