Christian Bale prefers people not know his real story. He admits to lying to the media, peppering his anecdotes with embellishments and inventions to keep himself entertained during repetitive junkets. Here are a few things the actor — who’s not quite as serious as his roles lead fans to believe — had to say about various subjects.
Joking about co-star Russell Crowe’s “Batsuit”:
“I bought Russell his own special rubber outfit. You’ll be seeing him in the Meatpacking District of Manhattan.”
On shooting “3:10 to Yuma”:
“Real sun, real wind, real dirt. And I think you needed that, to get out there and just get the feel of it.”
On physically changing for his roles:
“I’m as lazy as the next man. If I don’t have to [lose weight], I won’t. But of course I’ll do it. I like that madness.”
On whether there has ever been a good profile written about him:
“If you’re meaning a truthful one, I would never let you know, because I have no desire for people to get their facts right about me.”
On what bothers him about making movies:
“Taxing to me is when you’re working with idiots. When you’ve been deceived or you’re working with people who are incompetent.”
