Durbin wants Peterson here

U.S. Senator Dick Durbin is again pressing for France to extradite a man accused of killing Chicago Dr. David Cornbleet in 2006. Durbin asked newly appointed French ambassador Pierre Vimonto to push for France to reconsider its decision against extraditing dual-citizen Hans Peterson.

CTA issues Blue Line alert

Service on CTA’s Blue Line will be suspended between the Western/Milwaukee and Clark/Lake stops over the weekend to replace rail ties. The line will shut down in both directions between the two stops from 11 p.m. Friday until 4 p.m. Sunday, CTA spokeswoman Wanda Taylor said. Bus shuttles will run between the stops during the suspension.

Feds searching ‘burbs for laser

Federal authorities tried Thursday to track down an individual who shined a laser into the cockpit of a Northwest Airlines plane coming in to land at O’Hare. The DC-9 was a quarter-mile from touching down when the pilots reported a green or white light aimed at the cockpit from the ground, according to the FAA.

County records headed online

People interested in researching their family tree soon will be able to access key records from home, Cook County Clerk David Orr said Thursday. Newly digitized versions of county records such as birth and death certificates and marriage licenses could be available beginning in January. The URL has not yet been named.
