Pepsi’s new drinks
Pepsi is offering a new low-calorie version of Gatorade in an effort to keep customers who have strayed from the sports drink in search of lower-calorie drinks. PepsiCo also announced Friday that it would introduce a bottled water with caffeine and vitamins called Propel Invigorating Water; reformulate its SoBe Life Water with sucrose, antioxidants, vitamins and fewer calories; and use a new sweetener blend with fewer calories for its Aquafina Alive water.
Police break up baby ring
Police in eastern China have broken up a baby trafficking ring, arresting 47 people and rescuing 40 infants, state media said Friday. The operation began in late May after police questioned four women on a train, each holding a baby, the official Xinhua News Agency said, citing officers with the Nanjing railway police office. More than 60 babies had been trafficked, and authorities had rescued 40, Xinhua said. Police continued to search for the others.
Mom suspected in case
The mother of a British girl whose disappearance sparked an international search is considered a suspect in the case, friends and family said Friday. The girl’s aunt said police suggested 4-year-old Madeleine McCann might have been killed accidentally and offered the mother a plea deal if she confessed. Madeleine’s mother, Kate McCann, was questioned for more than four hours Friday in Portimao, Portugal.
Lacrosse prosecutor reports to jail
Mike Nifong, the prosecutor who led the now-discredited Duke lacrosse rape case, reported to jail Friday in Durham, N.C., to serve a 24-hour sentence for contempt of court. The city, meanwhile, was in settlement talks with the three exonerated players. According to a person close to the case, attorneys for the three players are seeking $30 million from Durham and reforms in the legal process. If the terms aren’t met, they will sue early next month, the person said.

Millionaire wins lottery — again
U.S. Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (right), already a millionaire and heir to the Kimberly-Clark fortune, is on a lucky streak. The Republican hit it big in 1997 with a $250,000 jackpot in the District of Columbia lottery. Then, last spring, he won a $1,000 prize in the Wisconsin lottery, and he won another $1,000 in that lottery last week. “I got lucky,” Sensenbrenner said. He said he spends about $10 a week on lottery tickets.
