2. NASCAR Racing

6:30 p.m., WLS-Ch. 7

The Chevy Rock & Roll 400 sets the stage for the start of the 10-race Nextel Cup’s championship chase next week. Instead of the usual 10 drivers, a new wrinkle this year has increased the field to 12, which would have benefited Tony Stewart and Greg Biffle last season. Count Stewart in this time, while Biffle and other big names such as Kurt Busch and Dale Earnhardt Jr. were on the outside looking in at this writing.

3. ‘Fall Preview Party’

7:30 p.m., WMAQ-Ch. 5

Something’s coming, something good … and something bad and something ugly, but that’s not important right now. Greg Grunberg (“Heroes”) hosts this new special offering viewers a heads-up on the Peacock’s new fall shows. Plenty of stars from those shows will be on hand, including new “Bionic Woman” Michelle Ryan, and Kevin McKidd and Moon Bloodgood of the time-travel fantasy “Journeyman.”

4. ‘Law & Order: Criminal Intent’

8 p.m., WMAQ-Ch. 5

Wow, Marie Barone is moving up in the world. Fan favorite Doris Roberts guest-stars as Lady Virginia Harrington, a well-known socialite whose granddaughter is killed. Goren and Eames’ (Vincent D’Onofrio, Kathryn Erbe) investigation leads them to a married man who fathered the victim’s child.

5. ‘Medium’

9 p.m., WMAQ-Ch. 5

Jason Priestley was quite the dreamboat in his “Beverly Hills, 90210” days, so maybe that’s why Allison (Patricia Arquette) can’t stop dreaming about him. Unfortunately, his character in this episode is a murder suspect. She helped get him arrested, and he’s on trial, but her dreams about the crime continue. Neve Campbell guest-stars.
