More reviews are in, and they ain’t pretty.
Almost unanimously, media agreed with RedEye’s review labeling Britney Spears’ opening performance at Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards a big old bust. Even fellow artists had a hard time backing up the pop tart.
“She didn’t seem like she wanted to be there,” Common told The New York Daily News. “There was no spark. I don’t want to disrespect her, but she can’t sing!”
Britney was razzed for lazy dance moves and what appeared to be lazy lip-syncing. Asked by a USA Today reporter how she thought the performance went, she reportedly said, “Good, thank you.”
Chris Brown, who delivered perhaps the best performance of the night, offered his take to “Access Hollywood”: “Honestly, she did good for what she was working with. I expected a little bit more.”
Akon cut her some slack: “She seemed nervous … you could tell by the expression on her face,” he told the AP.
