A South Side grocery was shuttered after city Dumpster Task Force inspectors found an abundance of mouse droppings and the bodies of decaying mice inside the business on Wednesday, according to Matt Smith, a spokesman for the Department of Streets and Sanitation. Inspectors found more than 300 mouse droppings at Aristo Food & Liquor, Smith said.

“We found just very unsanitary conditions, effectively filth,” Smith said of the site, adding that inspectors also found gnawed-on snack bags and a package of “expired date pork sausages covered with a mysterious white and green substance.”

A man who answered the phone at Aristo Food & Liquor on Wednesday evening called the closing “very unfair” and said that he would try to re-open Thursday.
