IT’S A MONTH WITH AN ‘R’: If you need another excuse to gulp down oysters, you have one as we move into their peak season. Yum.
THE SKY IS A BEAUTIFUL BLUE: Take in the view from the Sears Tower (www.the-skydeck.com) or Hancock (www.hancock-observatory.com) observatories.
HARVEST MOON SHINES: This year, it is Sept. 26.
OKTOBERFEST BEGINS: Finally, an occasion where it’s acceptable to wear lederhosen: Lincoln Park Oktoberfest (Sept. 29, Southport and Clybourn Avenues; 773-868-3010) or Oktoberfest Chicago (Sept. 28-30, Lincoln and Southport Avenues; 773-665-4682).
“TIM GUNN’S GUIDE TO STYLE” DEBUTS ON BRAVO: Put Professor Gunn’s tips to use by shopping on one of Chicago’s best boutique strips. The Do-Division Street Fest, held in conjunction with the Renegade Craft Fair, is a great excuse to stay in the area for live music and more (Sat.-Sun., on Division Street between Marshfield Avenue and Wood Street; 312-850-9390).
FALL FOLIAGE EMERGES: It’s a little early to get an eyeful of autumnal colors, but it’s high time to take a last look at late-summer fruits. Do just that and fete harvest season at the Autumnal Equinox Walk (4-5 p.m. Sept. 23; $6-$9. Morton Arboretum, Lisle; 630-968-0074).
FANTASY FOOTBALL’S IN MOTION: Watch the action at these football-friendly sports bars: Junior’s Sports Lounge (724 W. Maxwell St.;312-421-2277), Justin’s (3358 N. Southport Ave.; 773-929-4844) and Joe’s (Joe’s 940 W. Weed St.; 312-337-3486).
SEASONAL CUISINE IS HERE: One of our favorites is at Meritage (2118 N. Damen Ave., 773-235-6434). A baked baby pumpkin is filled with lobster meat, chanterelle mushrooms, Brussels sprouts and merguez sausage — with a smidgen of chile paste for zing. It should hit the menu in September’s third week.
