Elgin officials have approved a 40-acre mixed-use development that will include row homes, condominiums and retail space at West Bartlett and Spitzer Roads.
The Bellago development will include 7 acres of storefront retail space, 69 row homes and 225 condominiums in five midrise buildings. Prices will range from $370,000 to $419,000, officials said.
The development is expected to accommodate 1,000 residents and will include parks, a pond and bike and walking paths, officials said. The Elgin City Council approved the plan Wednesday. Council members capped the number of rentals in the development at 30 percent.
Work is expected to begin in the fall, said Robert Kirk, president of Group A Architects in Arlington Heights. The developer is Casanova Buildings of South Barrington.
