Jim Thome, 37, will try to become the 23rd player in major-league history with 500 home runs beginning Friday night against the L.A. Angels. Thome has hit 406 homers since moving off third base. He has four homers in his last six games. “It’s always nice to have an off-day, but when you’re swinging well, you want to continue to play,” he said.
