Woman falls on tracks

Power was shut down to a stretch of the CTA Pink Line for about 25 minutes Friday afternoon after a woman fell off a platform onto the elevated tracks on the West Side. The incident occurred about 1:25 p.m. at the Damen stop, at 21st Street and Damen Avenue, said CTA spokeswoman Sheila Gregory. The customer fell onto the tracks but did not make contact with the third rail, she said.

Gregory said preliminary indications were the woman had a seizure. She was conscious at the scene and taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital.

It’s official: Chicago for 2016

The International Olympic Committee announced Friday morning that seven cities met the Thursday deadline to file an official application. They include one each from North and South America, Chicago and Rio de Janeiro; two from Europe, Madrid and Prague; and three from Asia, Tokyo; Baku, Azerbaijan; and Doha, Qatar. Tokyo is the only bidder to have hosted a Summer Olympics, in 1964. Madrid was among five finalists for the 2012 Games and was eliminated in the penultimate round of voting. The IOC eventually chose London for 2012.

Probation in Payton thefts

A North Aurora man who stole Walter Payton’s football memorabilia from the namesake restaurant of the star Chicago Bears running back won’t be welcome there for the next two years. Jeremey Sherman, 19, pleaded guilty Friday in Kane County court to theft for stealing Payton’s National Football League Hall of Fame ring and a replica of his Super Bowl XX ring from Walter Payton’s Roundhouse Restaurant in Aurora in March 2006. Sherman received 2 years of probation.

Red Bull thief pleads guilty

A Glen Ellyn man faces up to 60 years in prison after pleading guilty Friday to hijacking two truckloads of Red Bull Energy Drink, which police believe he resold in New York City. Samer Bader, 30, pleaded guilty to the March 2006 theft of 1,487 cases of the popular drink worth $47,584 and the aggravated kidnapping of an employee from an Elmhurst distributor. He was arrested in New York City a few weeks later after Elmhurst police had sent a description to authorities there. The Red Bull was missing when they arrested him with about $20,000 worth of artwork.
