What do you do when you are one of Hollywood’s hottest actresses? Start your own clothing line. The latest actress to jump on the fashion design bandwagon is “Big Love” star Chloe Sevigny, who on Monday debuted her new line during New York Fashion Week. Here is a look at other crossover acts in Tinseltown who have extended their talents to the fashion world.
Sarah Jessica Parker
Signature style: A regular on best-dressed lists, this “Sex and the City” fashionista is trendy and classy.
Clothing line: Bitten, available exclusively at Steve & Barry’s. Launched this year, the line-up already offers more than 1,000 items, from swimwear and sweaters to jeans and jackets. And everything is under $19.98.
Haute or not? HAUTE. It’s the perfect combination of fashion and fun. And you can’t beat the prices.
Madonna
Signature style: Born to be a trendsetter and always in vogue, Madge isn’t afraid to try something new. Her closet has seen the good, the bad and the trendy.
Clothing line: Goodbye, cone bra; hello, well, no cone bra. After pairing up with H&M, the “Material Girl” launched her line in March, showing off her timeless style with items such as cropped jackets, trench coats and dresses. The sophisticated yet hip M line also includes bags, shoes and accessories.
Haute or not? HAUTE. This reasonably priced apparel won’t strip your savings or go out of style.
Amanda Bynes
Signature style: With girl next-door looks, the 21-year-old entrepreneur brings a refreshingly relaxed style largely made up of jeans, hoodies and tanks.
Clothing line: dear, also exclusively at Steve & Barry’s and also under $19.98. Launched in August, the line plays up on the popular patterns of stripes, hearts and polka dots.
Haute or not? NOT. Bynes’ casually comfy look may suit her well but her line lacks the pop to help set it apart.
Penelope Cruz
Signature style: Her classic taste in fashion always satisfies critics and fans.
Clothing line: Not only did the Spanish beauty team up with fashion chain Mango for the line but it’s also with her younger sister, Monica. The Cruz sisters’ fashions debut Sunday at Mango stores with 31 items. The line has two sides; $79 dark jeans and plaid sweaters vs. Hollywood glam with classic black dresses for $109-$149.
Haute or not? HAUTE. The sisters have created a classy wardrobe of everlasting designs.
Paris Hilton
Signature style: Whether she’s wearing an orange jail jumpsuit or showing off Hollywood’s hottest trends, Paris always gives the fashion world something talk about.
Clothing line: KitsonBoutique in L.A. introduced Paris’ line, named after the celebutante, last month. It includes sequin tops, slimming jeans and silky fabrics; pants are under $100, tees are $34 and tops are $50 and $80.
Haute or not? HAUTE. The heiress’ new clothes are flashy and sassy.
