After directing 1995’s “The Brothers McMullen,” people pegged actor-director Ed Burns as the next Woody Allen. But Burns’ other films, including “Sidewalks of New York,” failed to meet critics’ expectations. “That’s my middle name: Bombed,” Burns told Best Life magazine. He has a new film, “Purple Violets,” that will be the first feature film to be released and distributed by iTunes.
