Florida State suspended two football players Friday after they were arrested in a bar fight that resulted in felony charges against one of them.
Junior linebacker Geno Hayes and senior fullback Joe Surratt were arrested Friday at a bar near the campus, Tallahassee police and school officials said. Hayes had to be subdued with a Taser, and Surratt struck an officer, police said.
Surratt, 21, was charged with a felony count of battery on an officer. Hayes, 20, was charged with three misdemeanors. Hayes is the team’s second-leading tackler with 19. Surratt is out with a broken leg.
*New Orleans police arrested Tulane football player Ray Boudreaux in connection with a Bourbon Street stabbing that left five people hurt last weekend. Boudreaux was arrested on five counts of attempted murder, according to police, who said the knife used in the stabbings was found in his house. Tulane suspended Boudreaux from school and the team.
*The NCAA women’s basketball tournament will have 16 sites instead of eight for its first two rounds starting in 2009.
