THREE UP

Jimmy Rollins got his 706th at-bat to break the single-season record set in 1980 by the Royals’ Willie Wilson. Rollins set the mark in his second at-bat and he finished 1-for-5. His two-run single in the fifth gave the Phillies a 2-0 lead in a 6-0 win over Washington.

Since winning Aug. 4, Daisuke Matsuzaka was 1-4 with a 7.09 ERA in eight starts, raising suspicions that he might be wearing down. But the Red Sox righty set the tone by striking out his first two batters and finishing with 8 Ks in a 5-2 victory over the Twins.

Brandon Webb and Arizona clinched a playoff spot and stopped Colorado’s 11-game winning streak with a 4-2 win. Webb solved the Rockies’ lineup for the first time this season. He had been 0-3 with a 6.47 ERA in five previous starts against them.

THREE DOWN

A rare blown save by Mariano Rivera and a Boston win officially ended the Yankees’ run of nine division titles. It was Rivera’s fourth blown save of 2007, the second since April 28. New York was 85-1 when leading after eight innings with Rivera on the mound.

The Brewers have lost the last 22 games Chris Capuano has appeared in, a stretch that includes 18 starts and four relief appearances. Capuano received a no-decision in Friday’s loss to the Padres but has dropped his last 12 decisions, a club record.

The Mets couldn’t overcome an erratic outing from Oliver Perez, who tied a major-league record by hitting three batters in one inning — the third, as the Marlins scored two for a 4-1 lead. He was chased in the fourth and booed by the crowd at Shea.
