– I’ve heard Adam Sandler is involved in the show “Rules of Engagement,” but I’ve never seen him on it. What does he do on the series? — Stephen Oakes, Seattle

The CBS sitcom is produced by Sandler’s company, Happy Madison (a hybrid, of course, of the titles of his movie comedies “Happy Gilmore” and “Billy Madison”). He also talked co-star David Spade into doing the show, as Spade told us himself, when a feature film they planned to make together fell apart.

Now that the show is starting its second season, don’t rule out a possible appearance by Sandler somewhere along the way. In the meantime, close Spade friend Heather Locklear has signed up to do a couple of episodes.

– When is Drew Carey supposed to begin as host of “The Price Is Right”? — Kelly Simms, Toledo, Ohio

CBS has set Oct. 15 for the date Carey debuts in the daytime job Bob Barker had for 35 years. Ratings suggest that many people got warmed up to see Carey in his new role by watching him preside over CBS’ summer game show “Power of 10.”

– I greatly enjoyed “The Riches.” Was it a one-time-only mini-series, or will it return? — Susan Springer, New Milford, N.J.

It’ll be back, and FX made that decision even before Minnie Driver earned her recent Emmy nomination for outstanding lead actress in a drama series. The show will get a second season in 2008; a specific return date hadn’t been set as of this writing.

– Could you please tell me what ever became of John Davidson, the singer and one-time host of “Hollywood Squares”? — Harold McCoy, Rossville, Ga.

He remains active, and mostly via live performances. Davidson has spent a good amount of the year as the featured entertainer aboard a major cruise line’s ships, and he and his daughter Ashleigh just finished a run of “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” in Beach Haven, N.J.

Davidson has engagements soon in Pontiac, Mich.; Newark, Ohio; and Las Vegas; for more details, check his Web site, www.johndavidson.com. (And he still sounds fine, as proven by his rendition of “Just Once” that played when we looked at the site.)
