Expect many joyful noises for this new reality series, an “American Idol” for gospel singers. Unknowns from churches of all sizes compete for a recording contract, a new car, and cash and prizes for their church. Gospel great Bebe Winans and the duo Mary Mary serve as judges, and a variety of artists from both gospel and secular music will coach the finalists. Kirk Franklin hosts.
3. ‘Five Days’
7 p.m. HBO
It’s like “Without a Trace,” only bigger and with British accents. This new five-part series co-produced with the BBC is the story of a young mother who goes missing while taking her children to visit their great-grandfather. The kids go looking for her and vanish too. The series chronicles five non-consecutive days in the investigation of the mystery. Janet McTeer, Hugh Bonneville and Edward Woodward are in the excellent cast.
4. ‘Reaper’
8 p.m., WGN-Ch. 9
He may be the prince of darkness, but he has cool toys. Sam (Bret Harrison) wakes up one morning getting electric shocks from everything he touches. The devil (Ray Wise) explains this has to do with his latest assignment: an angry fugitive soul who feeds on power lines. For this job, he gets a remote-controlled toy monster truck to trap the spirit. Tyler Labine and Rick Gonzalez also star.
5. ‘Boston Legal’
9 p.m., WLS-Ch. 7
It’s raining women, especially for Alan (James Spader). Judge Weldon (Gail O’Grady) has asked him to father her child, and while he’s trying to decide whether to say yes, a sexy new lawyer (Saffron Burrows) joins the firm and catches both his eye and Denny’s (William Shatner). Her first case involves a woman who has lost her faith after being dumped by her pastor.
