*An L.A. court commissioner ruled Wednesday that Britney Spears can have visits with her two sons but did not reverse an order giving temporary custody to Kevin Federline, the pop star’s ex-husband, his attorney said.

*A piece of outer space named for George Takei is in kind of a rough neighborhood for somebody who steers a starship: an asteroid belt. A rock between Mars and Jupiter has been renamed 7307 Takei in honor of the actor, best known for his role as Mr. Sulu in the original “Star Trek.”

*Impresario Quincy Jones, trumpeter Joe Wilder and the late pianist Andrew Hill have won the country’s highest jazz honor: the National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Masters Award. The $25,000 prize will be presented Jan. 12 during the International Association for Jazz Education conference in Toronto. Also on this year’s winner’s list: percussionist Candido Camero, composer-arranger Tom McIntosh and conductor-composer Gunther Schuller.
