Too much Wikipedia
A Japanese bureaucrat in Tokyo has been reprimanded for shirking his duties to make hundreds of Wikipedia contributions about toy robots, officials said Friday. The agriculture ministry said the bureaucrat, whose name was not released, contributed 260 times to the Japanese-language Wikipedia entry on Gundam, a popular, long-running animated series about giant robots.
Track star pleads guilty
For years, Marion Jones angrily denied using steroids. On Friday, she admitted it was all a lie. The three-time Olympic Gold medalist pleaded guilty to lying to federal investigators when she denied using performance-enhancing drugs, and announced her retirement after the hearing. Outside the courtroom, Jones broke down in tears as she apologized for her actions.
Lacrosse players file suit
Three former Duke lacrosse players falsely accused of rape filed a federal lawsuit Friday against disgraced prosecutor Mike Nifong, the city of Durham, N.C., and the police detectives who handled the investigation. The lawsuit seeks unspecified punitive and compensatory damages, attorneys fees and numerous reforms to the way the Durham Police Department handles criminal investigations.
Topps closes after recall
Topps Meat on Friday said it was closing its business, six days after it was forced to issue the second-largest beef recall in U.S. history and 67 years after it first opened its doors in Newark, N.J. The decision will cost 87 people their jobs, Topps said. On Sept. 25, Topps began recalling frozen hamburger patties that may have been contaminated with the potentially fatal E. coli bacteria strain O157:H7. The recall eventually ballooned to 21.7 million pounds of ground beef.
