A nine-month effort to shape future land use along Roosevelt Road through Lombard concluded last week when the Village Board approved zoning-law changes that will give officials more control over development issues.
Village President William Mueller said the amendments approved Thursday should pave the way for a more attractive corridor occupied by a better mix of businesses. For instance, retail is now a conditional use instead of a permitted one, meaning Roosevelt Road can’t be filled “with just strip malls,” Mueller said.
Senior planner William Heniff said the revisions also encourage developments with more open space and attributes such as decorative lighting.
Restaurants, bakeries and groceries are among the types of businesses that residents said they would most like to see come to the corridor.
