No pain, no gain

Scottish rockers Nazareth said it best in 1975: love hurts. Sadly, the message still rings true. Gen Art offers a peek at one couple’s hellish ride down breakup alley during an advance screening of Goran Dukic’s “Wristcutters: A Love Story.” The film, in theaters Friday, spins the tale of a broken romance that leads to a bizarre road trip through the afterlife. Includes an afterparty and drinks at Krem (9-11 p.m.). 7 p.m. $15. AMC Loews Piper’s Alley 4, 1608 N. Wells St. 312-229-1701.

Pucker up

Think you’ve mastered the art of the smooch? Watch local dancers perform a slow-moving, continuous loop of choreography in “Kiss,” the first U.S. museum exhibit for young London-born artist Tino Seghal. Visible in the Museum of Contemporary Art’s fourth-floor gallery and from the ground floor, the five-cycle work explores intimacy and the interactions between viewer and artwork. 10 a.m. Through Dec. 30. Free through Nov. 14. 220 E. Chicago Ave. 312-280-2660.

Aw, shucks!

Are your dinner plans in need of a sea change? Royster with the Oyster all week at Shaw’s Crab House, where $6.50 gets you six cold-water oysters (or nab a dozen for $11.95) and you can flex your muscles with nightly slurping contests (6 p.m.). The 19th annual fest culminates in a tent party Friday (3-10 p.m.) outside the River North seafood spot with Lin Brehmer of WXRT (93.1-FM) as emcee, plus oysters, jambalaya, beer and live blues. Open daily at 11:30 a.m. $10 cover Friday only. 21 E. Hubbard St. 312-527-2722.

Viva la bash

Who says you can’t have it all? Not the folks behind the third annual Vive la Hispanidad bash honoring Hispanic Heritage Month. The multimedia event packs in live music, a special dance performance of “Latin Fire” by Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre, an art showcase, traditional and contemporary Latin eats from Carnivale, Rios d’Sudamarica and other local spots, and more. 7 p.m. $100. Chicago Illuminating Company, 19 E. 21st St. 312-267-4903.

Party animals

Pets don’t grow on trees, but they do fall from the sky, according to the Anti-Cruelty Society. Attend the organization’s seventh annual benefit, It’s Raining Cats and Dogs, and sample fare from more than 20 local chefs, including Jered Brown (Room 21), Dirk Flanagan (The Gage) and Mindy Segal (Hot Chocolate). Includes wine, live jazz, DJs and auctions. WMAQ-Ch. 5’s Andy Avalos emcees. 6:30 p.m. $125-$140. Tickets: anticruelty.org. The Anti-Cruelty Society, 510 N. La Salle St. 312-644-8338 ext. 307.
