Surplus costumes for a starring role in any Halloween party

Want a Halloween costume that’s a little out of the ordinary? How about a woolly mammoth? The Goodman is cleaning out its closets and holding a one-day sale of costumes on Saturday. You can take your pick from pieces used in Mary Zimmerman’s “The Odyssey” and “Mirror of the Invisible World,” as well as Stephen Sondheim’s “Bounce.” Along with the mammoth, there’s a dinosaur get-up from “The Skin of our Teeth.” And from “The Light in the Piazza,” over-sized heads from a dream sequence that never appeared on stage.

9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the lobby of the Goodman Theatre, 170 N. Dearborn St.; 312-443-3800 and www.goodmantheatre.org. Admission is free, and all costumes are cash-and-carry.

Harvest celebration, puppets included

“QuestFest 2007” is a free festival with a harvest theme, and features performances and events — music, dance, drumming and puppetry — that organizers say have long been used to mark the change of season. The roster includes the Quest Theatre Ensemble, the Afro-Latin Percussion Ensemble, Tantalus Theatre Group, Irreverence Dance & Theatre, the Chicago Didjeridu Chorus, Sheboom, Women’s Drum Jam and Ala Nar Dancers. The don’t-miss moment is the interactive Massive Drum Circle that closes out the afternoon.

11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Quest Resident Space, 1609 W. Gregory Ave.; 312-458-0895 and www.questensemble.org .
