It did our hearts good to hear that marathons around the region are offering discounts and other incentives for runners who participated in the fiasco that was this year’s LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon.
And we think the Chicago runners who take part should stand out from the crowds in the upcoming Des Moines, Grand Rapids and Lake Geneva races.
Shirts are being sold on the Internet with such slogans as “The Marathon Quit, But I Didn’t” and “Da Bears/Da Cubs/Da Bacle/Chicago Marathon 2007.”
It’s a good start, but we’re talking a lot of potential runners here. Help them wear their Windy City pride as they pound the Midwest pavement by coming up with an appropriate T-shirt slogan. Something that both celebrates and pokes a little fun at the Chicago Marathon mess.
Send entries — limit three per person — by noon Thursday to q@tribune.com. Include your name and address and write Challenge 263 in the subject field.
