Comments and controversy still surround the reported title of Nas’ upcoming album — and the record label behind it.
“We support everything our artists do, everything,” said Antonio “L.A.” Reid, chairman of Island Def Jam Music Group, when asked Friday by MTV News whether his company backed Nas’ decision to title his Dec. 11 album using the “n-word.”
Other hip-hop artists sounded off on the title when asked by MTV.
Said Chicago rapper Common: “Nas is always bringing something new, bringing something for us to think about. He’s one of the best ever. … So I mean, I know [the title] is something behind what he’s doing.”
50 Cent, however, said: “It’s nonsense, man. That’s a stupid name.”
But Nas has not backed down from comments he made Thursday, in which he told MTV that he wanted to take the sting out of the word and make it “easy on … [the] ears.”
