THU 10/25
Dancing on the ceiling
There’s nothing like a good witch hunt to get you in the Halloween spirit: The Strange Tree Group and Aloft Aerial Dance have joined forces in “Ghost Stories: Crucible the Musible!” Loosely based on Arthur Miller’s Salem witch trials tale “The Crucible” — with some token inspiration from Humboldt Park history — this over-the-top musical features classic rock songs like “Witchy Woman” and Puritan maidens spinning from the rafters. Last week’s shows sold out, so reserve in advance. 8 p.m. Through Wednesday. $13-$31. Aloft Loft, 937 N. California Ave. 773-598-8240. Tickets: strangetree.org.
Creepy carnival
Get your seasonal adrenaline rush at the Trails of Terror, a half-mile of wooded trails depicting a farm town haunted by creepy carnival characters. Watch out for a freaky bearded lady, a demented mortician and plenty of maniacal clowns. 6:30 p.m. Thursday-Tuesday. $5 opening night (Thursday); $6-$8 thereafter. Peterson Park, 5801 N. Pulaski Rd. 312-742-7584.
Minty fresh
Ladies, it’s not too early to start shopping for a killer outfit for the office holiday party. Fuel your shopping stamina with cake and champagne while browsing designer Jodi Arnold’s edgy yet sophisticated winter collection at a Mint trunk show. 5 p.m. Free. Tangerine, 1719 N. Damen Ave. 773-772-0505.
FRI 10/26
Funeral fun
Feeling been-there-done-that about Halloween parties this year? Instead of the usual ho-hum celebration, head to J. Patrick’s Irish Wake, where historic Irish icon Father Murphy presides over his own festive funeral (with some help from an impersonator, that is). Raise your $3 Irish draft (Guinness, Smithwick’s or Harp) or Jameson cocktail as he gives comical toasts on the hour. 8 p.m. No cover. J. Patrick’s Irish Bar & Grill, 1367 W. Erie St. 312-243-0990.
SAT 10/27
Antique chic
Experienced bargain hunters know that closing day equals amazing deals. Hit up the last weekend of the Fourth Annual Chicago Antique Market for deep discounts on collectibles from more than 200 dealers, including vintage holiday ornaments and decorations. Also includes entrance to the Indie Designer Fashion Market, filled with one-of-a-kind threads and accessories. Early-bird buying begins at 7:30 a.m. ($20; Saturday only). 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. $8. 1350 W. Randolph at Ada St. 312-951-9939.
Free your mind
Ever wish your significant other (or boss, or dog) could read your mind? Sidney Friedman says he can. The self-professed psychic returns for his 10th annual Mind Shivers show, where he’ll pull audience members on stage for mind-reading experiments. 8 p.m. Saturday; 7 p.m. Sunday. $16 plus two-drink minimum. Davenport’s Piano Bar and Cabaret, 1383 N. Milwaukee Ave. 773-278-1830.
