Jacques Rogge, president of the International Olympic Committee, will address The Chicago Council on Global Affairs and The Economic Club of Chicago at a luncheon Friday.
Rogge has worked within the Olympic realm for years. He served as president of the Belgian National Olympic Committee from 1989 to 1992. He became president of the European Olympic Committees in 1989, an IOC member in 1991 and a member of the Executive Board in 1998. He also chaired the IOC’s Coordination Commission for the Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 Games.
As an Olympian, he competed in yachting competitions at the Olympic Games in Mexico in 1968, Munich in 1972 and Montreal in 1976. He was also a member of the Belgian national rugby team. Born in Ghent, Belgium, he now resides in Lausanne, Switzerland, where the IOC is headquartered.
