Rush set to add QB, receiver

The Rush lost standout receiver Bobby Sippio to the NFL last summer but has found a capable replacement. Sources close to the Arena Football League team said Monday that former Colorado standout Damian Harrell would be introduced Tuesday as one of two new free-agent signees. The team is also expected to introduce quarterback Sherdrick Bonner, 39, a 15-year veteran with Arizona who was named one of the 20 greatest players in AFL history. Bonner is insurance as Rush QB Matt D’Orazio recovers from off-season back surgery. Bonner has passed for nearly 41,000 yards and has 829 touchdowns. Harrell, 32, caught 132 passes for 1,547 yards and 47 touchdowns last season.

Little E works with new team

Dale Earnhardt Jr ., still aching from a wreck caused by a problem with his old team, entered the new era of his career Monday in his first test session for Hendrick Motorsports. “I’m sore,” Earnhardt said during a break at the open Car of Tomorrow tests conducted by NASCAR at Atlanta Motor Speedway. “I hit like a ton of bricks (near the end of Sunday’s Pep Boys 500). It didn’t feel good.” But Earnhardt was decked out in a new Adidas driving uniform Monday to replace the familiar Budweiser fire suit he has worn his entire Cup career. He will finish this season for DEI and then be an official Hendrick driver — along with Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson and Casey Mears — next year.

Romo to get $67.5 million deal

After weeks of speculation about when quarterback Tony Romo would get a new contract, the wondering can cease. Romo and the Cowboys have agreed in principle on a six-year extension worth $67.5 million, including about $30 million guaranteed, NFL sources told Foxsports.com. The numbers are based on the contract Rams quarterback Marc Bulger agreed to in July: $65 million, $27 million guaranteed. Dallas’ talks with Romo, who leads the NFC with 1,984 yards passing and 16 touchdowns, started heating up last week. Cowboys officials met with Romo on Monday to finalize the deal. While Romo might have made more money by waiting until after the season, he decided it was a fair deal.
