A theologically conservative bishop whose election to the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina was invalidated by the national church has gained approval a second time and will be consecrated, officials said Monday.

Rev. Mark Lawrence will be consecrated Jan. 26. Lawrence, a priest in the San Joaquin diocese in Fresno, Calif., was elected bishop in September 2006. His election was rejected over the lack of proper written consents. He was re-elected in August by an even larger margin.
