Apparently, rap fans, you didn’t read the fine print on 50 Cent’s promise to retire if Kanye West outsold him.
When both rappers put out new albums the week of Sept. 11, West’s “Graduation” handily won the battle of CD sales … in the U.S.
And therein lies Fitty’s loophole.
“[My album] was No. 1 internationally the week it came out,” Fitty told New York Daily News columnist Ben Widdicombe. “It was the No. 1 European album!”
“Curtis” did in fact debut at No. 1 on Billboard’s European Top 100 Albums chart, taking the top spots in hip-hop enclaves Switzerland and Ireland.
