Two Boston sports franchises suffered losses on Sunday and, frankly, the rest of the country is a might relieved.

Following an October which saw the Red Sox sweep the World Series and the Patriots dominate the NFL, Boston was rolling.

But Sunday got off to an inauspicious start when the New England Revolution lost Major League Soccer’s championship 2-1 to the Houston Dynamo (look to your left).

Next up Sunday were Boston’s Celtics, who were 8-0 entering their game against Orlando. The team of Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce is beatable, after all, falling 104-102 to the Magic.

But New England’s Patriots stayed perfect, throttling the Bills 56-10 (look in the Bears Blitz, Section 7).

Back to the Celtics, who started the day looking to match the Patriots’ perfect start.

Pierce missed an off-balance jumper with time running out that could have forced overtime. He finished with 28 points. Dwight Howard scored 24 points and Rashard Lewis added 22 for Orlando.

Two nights after surviving a challenge with a 92-91 win over Miami, the Celtics lost despite shooting 53.3 percent from the field. The Magic shot 50.8 percent.
