Wheaton North (9-3) closed to within two points with 5:19 left to play, but the Warriors pulled away with a 10-3 run. … No. 13 Hinsdale Central used a 16-0 first-quarter run to drive to a 55-30 win over Elk Grove. C Molly Kinsella had 20 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks for the Red Devils (14-1).
SUBURBAN SHOWCASE: The Montini duo of freshman G Whitney Holloway and sophomore C Michala Johnson combined for 33 points in a 60-40 upset of No. 10 Trinity (14-3). The Broncos (10-4) opened the second half with a 9-0 run that extended their eight-point halftime lead to 42-25. … No. 8 Loyola continued its hot streak with a 53-34 win over Lake Zurich (12-4). G Audrey Gaughan and Lem Atanga McCormick each scored 14 points to lead the Ramblers (12-4), who haven’t lost a game in December.
WARREN: A taller Wheeling team scored 36 points in the paint, shot 60 percent and proved too much for Carmel in a 48-33 win. Carmel caused 19 Wheeling turnovers but couldn’t contain C Ashley Wilson, who totaled 18 points and seven rebounds for the No. 7 Wildcats (16-2). … No. 5 Warren held Deerfield to 22 percent shooting (12 of 54) in a 64-33 win. The 16-0 Blue Devils, led by C Sarah Boothe’s 24 points, 12 rebounds and eight blocks, scored 56 points down low and outrebounded Deerfield 39-17.
ARCHBISHOP MITTY: No. 1 Young opened its trip to the San Jose, Calif., tournament with a 63-36 win over St. Francis Central Coast Catholic. G Ashlee Anderson led the Dolphins (13-0) with 15 points and four rebounds. F Kiara Conner scored 14 points.
BLOOMINGTON/NORMAL: Bishop McNamara outscored No. 3 Hope 18-10 in the fourth quarter but fell short of the upset in a 37-36 Hope win. Ashley Brown scored 11 points to lead the Eagles (12-1).
