*GOLF: Mike Weir of Canada holed an 18-foot birdie putt on the final hole for a 6-under 67, giving him a one-shot lead over Stephen Ames and Jonathan Byrd after two rounds of the Mercedes-Benz Championship in Kapalua, Hawaii. Weir was at 8-under 138. Ames fixed a flaw in his putting stroke and also shot 67, making birdie on three of his last five holes despite missing a 6-footer along the way.
*TENNIS: Martina Hingis was banned for two years for testing positive for cocaine at Wimbledon last year. The International Tennis Federation said an independent anti-doping tribunal found that Hingis, who announced her retirement Nov. 1 on the day she revealed the positive test, had committed an offense. The 27-year-old Hingis denied using cocaine, but the tribunal rejected suggestions there were any doubts over her sample.
* HOCKEY: The Wolves climbed out of a two-goal hole early in the first period but gave up three straight goals as the Rockford IceHogs won 5-4 at the Rockford MetroCentre. Wolves defenseman Nathan Oystrick matched a career high with three points on a goal and two assists, and Jason Krog scored twice. .
*FIGURE SKATING: Former Olympic gold medalist Dorothy Hamill is undergoing treatment for breast cancer. The prognosis is favorable, but the 51-year-old Hamill said she would miss some of the “Broadway on Ice” tour while she is having treatment.
