State and city tourism officials on Thursday will roll out “Easy Access Chicago,” their first guide aimed at visitors with disabilities.
The free 52-page guide, which cost $170,000 to produce, will detail public transportation options, local attractions and accessible neighborhoods, and will make referrals to an online database with hotel and restaurant listings.
“Every location [in the guide] was visited by our trained site inspectors to ensure accessibility,” said Eric Lipp, executive director of the Open Doors Organization, a non-profit that worked with the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities and the Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau.
Want a guide? The guide can be obtained by calling 1-800-2Connect or visiting www.enjoyillinois.com or www.easyaccesschicago.org.
