Here are some comments posted on chicagotribune.com following Thursday’s vote by the House and Senate.
As a retired senior I am shocked by this blatant attempt to buy my vote. I have worked my whole life and do not need a free ride from anyone! There are many poor people who would benefit from a leg up like free transportation to and from work. Why not give a free ride to those who need help? I do not need this charity.”

I am glad something was passed on the mass transit bill. I was going to suggest that our sports teams [foot] the bill because they are playing horrible!”

How in the world can anyone think giving free rides to seniors is wrong? Public transportation should be free to everyone. Now I realize that’s not practical now, but eventually it should happen. I just don’t understand how anyone could oppose this.”

This whole tax thing is a ripoff for the collar counties. Where I live I have NO, repeat, NO mass transportation.”

I wonder how many teenagers are going to get their grandparents to go get this discount card and then use it themselves…I would.”

Ok Ron, you’ve got your money now….NO MORE EXCUSES. My morning southbound red line 20 minute commute better not take 40-60 minutes like it does now. I don’t even think the CTA will know how to run when they aren’t in a “doomsday” frame of mind.”
