*SOCCER: Fire forward Chris Rolfe has been named to coach Bob Bradley’s 18-man roster for Saturday’s (the day as published has been corrected in this text) United States-Sweden exhibition (7:30 p.m., Fox Soccer Channel).
Fire midfielder Justin Mapp, who is also currently training with the U.S. national team, was left off the roster.
Rolfe’s last match with the national team was a friendly against Mexico on Feb. 7.
*BASEBALL: Cardinals ace Chris Carpenter is throwing again and feeling good as he works his way back from Tommy John surgery.
“I just started tossing on Monday,” Carpenter said Saturday. “I haven’t had any problems so far. I haven’t had any soreness, but it’s still going to be a long process.”
Carpenter, who underwent surgery in July on the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, said his early routine consists of about 25 to 30 throws from 60 feet.
There’s no timetable for when Carpenter will return, but he probably won’t be back until the All-Star break.
*SAILING: Francis Joyon broke the around-the-world solo sailing record early Sunday, finishing in 57 days, 13 hours, 35 minutes, 6 seconds — more than 14 days faster than Ellen Macarthur’s 2005 journey. The 51-year-old Frenchman finished the circumnavigation off the French Atlantic coast soon after midnight.
