*BOXING: Indonesia’s Yohannes Christian John retained his WBA featherweight title by stopping Roinet Caballero of Panama in the seventh round Saturday. The 28-year-old John (40-0-1) made his ninth title defense.
*GOLF: Gil Morgan held steady in the whipping wind, shooting an even-par 72 to maintain a two-stroke lead after the second round of the Turtle Bay Championship in Kahuku, Hawaii. The 61-year-old Morgan had a birdie and bogey on the each side of the wind-swept Palmer Course for a 36-hole total of 7-under 137 in the Champions Tour’s first-field event of the year.
*HOCKEY: Jason Krog had two third-period goals and an assist and Darren Haydar and Joel Kwiatkowski each added a goal and an assist to help the Wolves snap a two-game losing streak with a 5-3 victory over the Grand Rapids Griffins. The Wolves’ 31 wins are second in the AHL.
*HORSE RACING: Go Between won the $1 million Classic in an upset, giving trainer Bill Mott his third victory of the day and helping Florida-bred horses defeat their California counterparts in the sixth annual Sunshine Millions at Santa Anita.
*SOCCER: Yossi Benayoun scored three goals to help Liverpool rally to beat the amateurs of Havant and Waterlooville 5-2 in the FA Cup. Arsenal defeated Newcastle 3-0 behind a pair of goals from Emmanuel Adebayor.
