The Eastside Choral Festival will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Elgin High School, 1200 Maroon Drive. Students from Ellis and Larsen Middle Schools; and Lords Park, McKinley, Sheridan, Huff, Hilltop, Coleman, Channing, Lincoln and Timber Trails Elementary Schools will participate. Tickets cost $2 per adult, $1 per student and $6 per family.

The South Elgin High School Storm Cheerleaders will host a cheer clinic for boys and girls in kindergarten through 8th grade from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the commons at the high school, 760 E. Main St. The group then will perform Feb. 22 during the sophomore basketball game against Bartlett High School. The fee is $30. Call Jennifer Hayward at 847-289-3760, ext. 3324.

The Huntley High School Fine Arts Boosters will hold their second annual wine tasting fundraiser at 7 p.m. Feb. 23 in the Village Vintner Winery, 2273 Randall Rd., Carpentersville. The cost is $15 per person and includes hors d’oeuvres and a sampling of eight individually handcrafted wines. A raffle will also be held and prizes include a print by watercolor artist Tom Lynch and a one-night stay at an inn in the Amish country in Indiana. Wine will be available by the glass for $6 or by the bottle at various prices. Fifteen percent of all sales will benefit the school’s fine arts programs. ELGIN

An academic scholarship essay contest is being held for students entering 5th through 8th grades in the fall of 2008 who are interested in an academically enhanced, Christian education. This year’s subjects are How I Will Change the World and What I Would Do as President of the United States. Essays must be a minimum of 500 and a maximum of 750 words, double-spaced and typed. Send essays along with your name, address, phone number, age and grade you will enter in the fall to: Highland Christian Academy, 2250 W. Highland Ave., Elgin, IL 60123. Label the envelope “essay contest.” Essays must be postmarked by April 1. Scholarships will be awarded in the form of tuition discounts and must be used for the 2008-09 school year. MCHENRY COUNTY

The Illinois Sheriff’s Association will award more than $50,000 in college scholarships throughout the state to students wishing to pursue higher education in the 2008-09 school year. McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren will award one $500 scholarship. The scholarship may be applied to tuition, books and fees only. Students must be a resident of the county, permanent state residents, and enrolled full time at a certified state institution of higher learning. Applications are due March 15. MCHENRY COUNTY COLLEGE
