A man was charged with withdrawing $2 million from an account after a bank confused him with a man who has the same name.
Benjamin Lovell was arraigned Tuesday on grand larceny charges, The Associated Press reports. The 48-year-old salesman said he tried to tell officials at Commerce Bank in December that he did not have a $5 million account. He says he was told it was his and he could withdraw the money.
Prosecutors said the bank confused Lovell with a Benjamin Lovell who works for a property management company.
RedEye could not resist the movie-making potential of this tale of money and intrigue. We cast this film, tentatively titled “Ocean’s 14:”
– Steve Buscemi: Stars as salesman Benjamin Lovell, who said he gave away some of the withdrawn $2 million, spent some of it on gifts and lost a lot of it in bad investments.
– George Clooney: Reprises a legal-eagle role as the prosecutor pursuing Buscemi’s character. After all, Clooney excelled as an attorney in “Michael Clayton.” Plus, there’s got to be a law written somewhere that Clooney must star in any movie with “Oceans” in its title.
– Brad Pitt: Stars as the real, fully-funded Lovell, who works for a property management company and is distraught that his money has been wasted by a man with the same name.
