PILOT DIES: One pilot was killed when two F-15C Eagle fighter jets likely collided and crashed into the Gulf of Mexico off the Florida Panhandle during a training exercise Wednesday, the Air Force said. Both pilots ejected and were pulled from the gulf; the other pilot is in good condition.

– Robyn Parnell, adoptive mother of Jacob Jett, a high school senior from Independence, Mo., accused of trying to pay hit men $260 to kill his adoptive parents. Jett, 18, allegedly gave the money and three handguns to two men as part of the plot. “He thought they were too strict,” and he wanted to inherit money, Jackson County prosecutor Jim Kanatzar said Wednesday. Parnell, 48, said her son was adopted as an infant and that he was her and her husband’s only child.
