Whimsical fashion designer Marc Jacobs blew into town one Friday with an entourage of employees–flown in from all over the country–to celebrate the opening of his new Marc by Marc Jacobs store in Bucktown. But this affair, in a spacious, bi-level loft a few blocks from the boutique, boasted more flair than the usual Chicago hot spot opening. Guests were treated to a lavish sit-down dinner party on the top floor, followed by a sexy little soiree on the first. Chicago’s fashion elite mixed effortlessly with the mostly New York crowd as Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell spun tunes. And, of course, almost everyone showed up wearing Marc Jacobs gear.

What about Chicago’s style? This is my first day ever in Chicago and so far I’m a fan of everything I’ve seen. It feels like New York; the only difference really is that everyone seems to have a smile on their faces. – Vaughn Vance
