WORRIED PARENTS: Officials with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention scrambled Thursday to reassure the public that childhood vaccines are safe after news spread that another agency had acknowledged a link between a child’s autism and shots the 9-year-old girl in Georgia received as a toddler. “Our message to parents is that immunization is lifesaving,” Dr. Julie Gerberding, CDC’s director, said at a hastily convened news conference in response to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ court action. “There’s nothing changed.”
RANGEL HOSPITALIZED: Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.), 77, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, has been hospitalized in New York with the flu.
