Right guy, wrong medium.
The White Sox finally did something right. They hired Steve Stone for their radio broadcasts — a full slate too.
Good thing. The Chris Singleton snoozefest was a bit much. Off to ESPN he goes; they’ll like him there.
As for the Sox, only one problem. To listen to Stone, I also have to listen to Ed Farmer.
People, try that some time. You will listen to a man who is so in love with himself, the idea of “shut up, watch and listen” last occurred to him, oh, about 1968.
I don’t understand why this is so complicated. Finish the job you started. Anyone who saw/heard him in the booth with Hawk Harrelson last year knows, Stone’s a TV guy. He’s way better than Darrin Jackson, so why don’t we move Jackson to radio and have Stone in the booth with Harrelson.
That makes Harrelson better, by the way. That way he’s not just a homer for the Sox.
Watch. This is going to happen. It makes too much sense.
I take that back. This is Chicago. It won’t happen.
So long to Brian Griese. Back to Tampa Bay you go. Listen, it was fun while you were here. You had a few nice moments. But, being a Bears QB, you had no choice:You were going to be average one way or another. Maybe worse than that.
So long to Brendan Ayanbadejo as well. I have no emotional reaction to him whatsoever.
Hey, I can’t believe we re-signed Lance Briggs. I choked on my nachos when I found out. These are the Bears, right? Don’t we let that guy go for nothing?
Of course, we have no receivers now that Bernard “I twisted my pinkie and can’t play” Berrian is gone. It’s gotten pretty bad when we have to bring Marty Booker back.
I’m a little concerned there isn’t much left of Booker. When he was with the Bears the first time, John Shoop nearly killed him. You remember. Jim Miller drops back, three-yard pass to Booker — boom — tackled by 10 guys. Get up, run it again.
Nice to see Tyrus Thomas is maturing. I know it’s a difficult life these guys lead, but if you could just set aside a little time each week for things like practices, that would be great.
Your disgusted fans would really appreciate it.
