The jail sentence handed down to Antonio Jussivan Alves dos Santos, who pulled of Brazil’s biggest bank robbery, a court official said Thursday.

Santos, who was arrested Feb. 25, led the gang that in August 2005 tunneled 260 feet to reach the vault of the Central Bank branch in the northern city of Fortaleza and make off with the equivalent of $70 million. Eleven other gang members have been convicted in the heist, but more than half the stolen money still is missing.
