RADIO HEAD LINER
Lollapalooza loves the ’90s.
Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails are expected to headline Lollapalooza 4, set for Aug. 1-3 in Grant Park.
Promoters won’t make the lineup official for a few more weeks, but industry sources have confirmed to the Tribune that Radiohead has been booked as the centerpiece of the festival. The British quintet still raves about the experience it had in 2001 when it headlined a rare outdoor show at Hutchinson Field, on the South end of Grant Park. The band is expected to perform at the same location this year.
In addition, Nine Inch Nails will play its first Chicago show in several years, following the release of its 2007 album, “Year Zero,” and the four-volume “Ghosts,” made available a few days ago on nin.com.
At least one other major headliner and about 100 more artists and bands are expected to be announced next month. A spokeswoman for Lollapalooza had no comment.
Mayer feels the burn
A lesson for John Mayer: Don’t put an ex on blast unless you’re ready to handle the consequences.
The quote-ready soft-rocker took to his blog to post a letter to a mystery “Ex Lover.” According to People magazine, it read, in part: “Perhaps you didn’t understand the last time I told you to stop contacting me, so I’ll do my best to spell it out for you. I do not wish to have you in my life anymore.”
Predictably, that set off a mini-riot in the online gossip world as different outlets speculated on which famous girlfriend Mayer might have been calling out. He has been linked to Jessica Simpson, Cameron Diaz and actress Minka Kelly.
But by Friday afternoon, the only posting on Mayer’s blog showed the quotation “never complain, never explain” — and nothing else.
Baby on board
After British tabloids and Web sites speculated about her recent weight gain, Lisa Marie Presley has confirmed on her MySpace page that she is pregnant with her third child, according to usmagazine.com.
“It is unfortunate that I couldn’t have announced something that is this much of a blessing and that has made us so incredibly happy under better circumstances,” the onetime bride of Michael Jackson wrote.
It will be the first child for Presley and husband Michael Lockwood, a music producer.
Totally psyched
Were Madonna and Justin Timberlake working together on her new album or on an episode of “In Therapy”?
“We had psychoanalytic sessions whenever we wrote songs first,” Madonna tells Interview magazine, according to excerpts on usmagazine.com.
“We’d sit down and we’d start talking about situations. And then we’d start talking about issues or problems or relationships with people,” she said, adding that their writing sessions were “very intimate.”
THE DIGIT
$1.4 million
The asking price for “24” star Mary Lynn Rajskub’s two-bedroom bungalow in L.A., the L.A. Times reports. The actress, who plays computer geek Chloe on the show, has been leasing the home to “24” co-star Mia Kirschner, who played Mandy in seven episodes.
Riled up on the ‘Runway’
“Project Runway” contestant Victorya Hong, who attended the University of Chicago, was a “sourpuss, a crabby apple … throughout almost all the show, other than Days 1, 2 and 3,” show mentor Tim Gunn said in an interview with the Tribune.
Gunn said he and an executive producer had to have two “off-camera interventions” with Hong, who finished in seventh place.
“I said to her, ‘You know what makes me beside myself is the fact that there are thousands of designers who would love to be in your place. What’s the matter with you?’ ” Gunn said. “She said … ‘I never dreamed we’d only have a day for challenges, that we wouldn’t have any breaks.’ … ‘I assumed [the show] was cheated.’ “
Gunn said during one challenge, Hong requested Gunn count the fabric money given to designers to make sure she had the same amount as the other designers. She also expressed suspicions about the departure of contestant Jack Mackenroth, who said he left the show because of a facial infection, Gunn said.
“She actually said about Jack’s departure that we had engineered him leaving because he wasn’t a pretty face anymore,” Gunn said. “I just said to her, ‘I fundamentally don’t understand why you can’t understand that he is seriously ill.’ “
Pam-tastic
OMG — Pam’s in Playboy! (Our money was on Dwight.)
“The Office” receptionist remains clothed, but actress Jenna Fischer did sit down for an interview with the men’s magazine for its April issue.
And she even got a little frisky. “One night when I was young, I came home wearing a pair of boxers, and I claimed I was at my friend Ellen’s house,” she recalled. “I was at a boy’s house, and they were his boxers. So there. My parents can read that and ground me.”
As for being named one of People magazine’s 100 most beautiful celebrities in 2006, Fischer said “I think I’m going to put it in my movie contract that they have to call me ’37th Most Beautiful Person 2006, Emmy-losing actress Jenna Fischer.’ “
