In a lifetime, it seems we’ve gone from Peter Pan to Iron John. So now, will someone just tell us what men want?!

In this week’s cover story “Delivering the male,” Jason George cut through the blast of explanations (Mothers! Fathers! Refusal to grow up! Fear of Failure!) and looked–where else?–to an advertising agency and a woman, Rose Cameron, whose crystal ball sheds light on the modern American male psyche.

Women may be the ultimate multi-taskers, but Jason juggled mightily with this story, working on it as he trailed after presidential candidates on the campaign trail. In an interesting twist, he recognized a confluence of advertising and politics. “Advertisers want our business, politicians want our votes,” Jason explains. “To see these pitches at the same time revealed just how much the worlds of advertising and politics overlap-ad people just have cooler clothes and eyewear.”

In Rose Cameron, Jason found a fascinating, complex guide to his fellow man. He did, however, restrain himself from asking her to cast an analytical eye on him. “I didn’t want her judgment to impact the story,” notes Jason. “And who wants to be put in a box?”
